October 4, 2013

0. The setup

FreeBSD 9.2 with 3x SATA2 HDD in raidz1 and zfs on root:

NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
zroot ONLINE 0 0 0
raidz1-0 ONLINE 0 0 0
gpt/disk0 ONLINE 0 0 0
gpt/disk2 ONLINE 0 0 0
gpt/disk3 ONLINE 0 0 0

1. Adding the SSD as L2ARC cache (ssd is ada1 disk)

# gpart create -s gpt ada1

# gpart add -t freebsd-zfs -a 4k -l write-cache -s 64G ada1

# zpool add zroot cache /dev/gpt/write-cache

that;s all
